As the dust settled on Bradley Wiggins’ fantastic Tour de France success at the weekend, it seemed fitting to open up photos this morning of the 20 strong team cycling from Innsbruck in the Austrian Tirol to London – to raise funds for Disability Snowsport UK.
The Tirol cycle team started from Innsbruck last Thursday and will have riden 1300km through Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium before crossing from Ostend to Ramsgate before eventually arriving in London on Thursday 26th July, the day before the Olympics Opening Ceremony. Each day they’ll have spent an average of 6-8 hours on the road covering up to an impressive 200km.
Starting from the Bergisel stadium in Innsbruck, the Tirol team were joined by Heather Mills who rode the first leg of the journey with the team. The support doesn’t end there with the leg from Ramsgate to Tower Bridge seeing BBC Ski Sunday presenter Graham Bell, ex GB ski racer Konrad Bartelski, cycling enthusiasts from the Ski Club of Great Britain as well as Crystal’s very own Gordon Ritter and Jon Baud join the peleton.
Follow the progress reports and story as the team cycle through Europe on Facebook. Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/tirol2london2012.
Here are a few of the photos as they left Innsbruck – which if you’re wondering, hosted the winter Olympics in 1976 and 1964.
