Valloire, a lesser-known ski resort in the Maurienne region of the French Alps is getting a big boost to its infrastructure in time for this winter, installing two new high-speed six-seater lifts. Skiers in the Valloire area will be now able to enjoy faster access to 150km of skiing.
Faster access to Setaz
A new six-seater lift, the Cornaford, will replace an old two man chairlift and two ancient drag lifts. This will much improve the ascent to Setaz – not only will the journey time be shortened significantly, but will also be much more comfortable. Capacity on the route will be increased to handle to 3000 skiers per hour, with the 1.6km long lift being re-aligned for better access to the slopes.
Coming back down, there’ll be a choice of runs to choose from – the black run ‘Dahu’, the red, ‘Bouquetin’, and the blue ‘Setaz’ will all link from the top of the lift, with the Setaz undergoing some re-modelling to make it an easier descent for those skiers still in the early stages of the sport.

Les Verneys gets a new chairlift
Along the valley from Valloire ski resort is the little hamlet of Les Verneys. This will be home to the second new six-seater chairlift named after the area it serves. The lift will be just over a kilometre in length and will climb to 200m in altitude, carrying up to 2100 skiers per hour.
The lift serves blue, green and red pistes, with the ‘Choucas’ red run, which snakes down underneath the chair, also being re-modelled.
We asked skiers who knew Valloire what their thoughts were on the impact these new lifts would have on the Crystal Ski Facebook page.
Nicky, one of the community commented,
“Loved Valloire when I went a few years ago. And those two chair lifts will definitely make the ski experience better for those runs, especially up to Choucas which was my favourite run in the little valley.”

Both chairlifts are scheduled to be completed in time for opening day on December 15 2012.
