10 Must-See Snowboard Films of 2013

With the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics just around the corner, snowboarders are already deep into training. Each year, riders from all over the world outdo themselves, and while it’s not necessarily the Olympics pushing them to go further, the technology and constant influx of new talent has driven up the risks and rewards.

With more talent and creativity than ever, riders are pushing the limits as they always have and making some incredible films while doing so. This year many snowboard films focus on new talent, creativity, riskier tricks and all kinds of take-no-prisoners cinematography.

1. Nike’s “Never Not”

The film is a  look into the progression of snowboard athletics and the rider’s edge, which often can be bloody. Nicolas Muller, Gigi Ruf, Jed Anderson and Jess Kimura all make appearances in this truly inspirational film.

2. Sweetgrass Productions’ Valhalla

Valhalla shows the tale of a man’s search to feel his youth once more. With both backcountry skiing and risk-taking snowboarding cinematography, Valhalla will impress you with its insightful narratives and vivid imagery.

3. Absinthe’s Resonance

This film video explores parts of Japan, Alaska, Northwest America and Europe.

4. Jeremy Jones’ Further

Further pushes the limits with views from the biggest mountain views and lots of shred.

5. Dinosaurs Will Die Team Vid

This is the first video by the urban snowboard team Dinosaurs Will Die.

6. Mind the Video Man

Cinematographers take risks, too, and this film offers a full view into the progression of modern snowboarding.

7. Enlighten

Killer tricks find their  angle in this video specifically made for snowboarders.

8. The Darkside

This movie features some of the community’s favourite snowboarders getting a head start in Winter 2013.

9. It’s a Movie Too

It’s a Movie Too takes you from Alaska to Chile to BC to Japan with the YES team.

10. Thirteen

State-of-the-art cameras film the world’s best snowboarders at locations all over the globe including Whistler, Lake Tahoe, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Sun Valley, Europe and Heavenly. These films are just a few of the monumental selections from this year’s teams and dedicated snowboard cinematographers.
