Essential skiing kit list – what to take and what not to take on your first ski holiday

Ski equipment on the slopes

One person speaks, the community responds. At least that’s what happened on our facebook page when we were asked to provide an essential ski kit list.

Of course, we could of put a list forward but that wouldn’t have been half as much fun. We also wouldn’t have come up with such a comprehensive list for both essentials and items for if you’ve got space.

So, here’s the list you’ve been waiting for. (Of course if you think anything has been left out you can join the discussion on facebook or leave us a comment below).

Essentials ski kit list

  • Jacket
  • Trousers
  • Base layers – for dispersing moisture
  • Mid layer*
  • Helmet and Hat
  • Gloves**
  • Ski socks
  • Sunglasses
  • Goggles – sunglasses don’t work when it’s snowing
  • Neck warmer
  • Suntan cream
  • Lip balm
  • Camera
  • Insurance
  • Pre-booked equipment
  • Ibuprofen
  • Deep heat
  • Wrist guards

* We would suggest a Micro Fleece
** In a straight vote between the two, gloves were the overwhelming choice over mittens.

To take if you have room ski kit list

    • Your own boots – for a more comfortable fit
    • Knee pads – particularly if you’re going snowboarding
    • Walkie talkies
    • Small rucksack
    • MP3 player
    • Chocolate bars

And in case it gets really cold:

  • Glove liners
  • Balaclava

Remember we really want to hear your views. If you feel as though we’ve missed anything from either list, please let us know by leaving a comment below or visiting our facebook page and joining the discussion there.

When we found out just how many people wanted this list compiled we sprang into action. As a result we’re now in the process of building a new web page so that all our customers can access the lists whenever they want.

And if you have any other suggestions for things you’d like to see us offer/deliver then be sure to tell us.

  • Hey this is a great list – thanks folks, very helpful.

  • Oli

Perhaps a resort guide too? You can get the small pocket sized ones now and also plenty of options for Blackberry, Android and I Phone.

  • A mobile phone is fairly essential for calling emergency services if off piste. Also place emergency contacts under an entry marked ICE. Copies of insurance and next of kin etc in pocket with phone.
