The Altitude Comedy Festival is one of a kind. Set in the picture-perfect ski resort of Mayrhofen in Austria, it brings some of the world’s biggest comedians to one of the world’s top ski resorts.
You can hit the slopes by day and laugh all night – with an amazing line-up of comics performing throughout the week including Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle, and Al Murray.
“There can be few nicer places to watch comedy than at the Altitude festival ****” Daily Telegraph.
The Altitude Comedy Festival has entertainment for all. Whether groups of friends on a wild white holiday, a relaxing romantic break or a fun family occasion, the festival caters for everyone’s tastes.
There are kids shows and crèche facilities during the day and evening (including the Comedy Club 4 Kids), bars and restaurants high above the clouds, an empty 15th century spa, secret backcountry bash’s and an igloo party. Mayrhofen doesn’t compromise on skiing, entertainment or facilities!
“SKIING, comedy, music. Not a bad combination, in anyone’s book. Hence, the fun had at Altitude Festival this year was – by my maths – at least three times better than any mountain break previously taken.” Tommy Holgate, The Sun Comedy Columnist.
Dates and line-up
This years fifth Altitude Comedy Festival is from 26 – 31st March. So pop on your party hat, pack your ski gear and join the party in Mayrhofen for Altitude Comedy Festival 2012. This year’s amazing Altitude line-up of comedians includes: TV heavyweight Jimmy Carr, and the almighty Frankie Boyle.
Everyone’s favourite pub landlord Al Murray, veteran observational stand-up Ed Byrne, Scottish ‘man-of-the-people’ Kevin Bridges, Aussie musical minstrel Tim Minchin, king of the one-liner Milton Jones, Canadian charmer Craig Campbell will also be there.
Plus moustachioed storyteller Rufus Hound, Radio 4 satirist Marcus Brigstocke, impressionist & occasional beatboxer Terry Alderton, 21st century slacker Carl Donnelly, ‘Ireland’s 7th biggest hip hop crew’ Abandoman, irrepressible showmen The Cuban Brothers, and many more.
“It is not often you get to see an O2 Arena-filling act in a 100-capacity bar, so this was the kind of thing that made the festival special” Bruce Dessau, of the Evening Standard.
Mayrhofen is one of the world’s top ski and snowboard resorts, with access to the entire Zillertal super ski area with 639km of piste and 167 lifts and gondolas. The extensive area means no matter what your ability, there will be something for you in the two ski areas of Ahorn and Penken.
Beginners can make the most of the gentle nursery slopes and patient instructors, whilst those with some experience can head up to The Penken, which has red slopes galore. The Hintertux Glacier has year-round snow, and a little lower are the pretty pine tree lined runs of Zell am Ziller.
For the thrill seeking advanced skier there’s the ‘Harakiri’ – the steepest pisted black run in Austria, and the Horberg ski area also offers a number of exciting long runs like the challenging Schafskopf mogul run.
Skiing and snowboarding aside, the resort of Mayrhofen has excellent restaurants, luxurious hotels and enticing spas, providing something for everyone in the family. With a lively nightlife and an attractive Tirolean centre Mayrhofen has plenty to entertain all ages and budgets. The traditional village has an alpine feel, and a great atmosphere, with lots of café terraces spilling out on to the streets.
